Le Perchoir Marais

It may not be new, but this summer-set bar, perched on top of the chic BHV Marais department store, is still one to try when the sun is out and you’re feeling pretty. Just make sure you bring flats if you’re a lady — because it’s popular, despite the years — and you will have to wait in line to get in.

Happy Friday all! For many, Le Marais is high on hit-list for a night out after a long, hard week. We hear you. This artistic district is a regular haunt, and a big draw for any thirsty local who lives in the metro area of the capital, thanks to its huge variation of bars, clubs and beautiful people.

If you’re from here or an honourary Parisienne, then you will have heard of Le Perchoir too. It’s one of the most (in-)famous places in the 4eme for a few reasons — including its great cocktail menu and location — but also thanks to a huge line; which snakes all the way around the bottom of the building, where its glamourous would-be patrons wait patiently in line to enter each night.

Located on the 6th floor of BHV (one of the nicest, but also fairly pricey) shopping centers in Paris, this staple summer bar is a seasonal must-see if you’re visiting — it’s worth the hassle at least once, if you haven’t been, mostly because the view from its rooftop terrace is second to none. Once you’re (finally) in, past security, you’ll be crammed into a tiny elevator with your fellow drinking buddies, and up you go… and when the doors open — it’s truly a sight for sore eyes.

The 180-degree vista from here, is quite simply — amazing. From your well-earned perch, you’ll be able to sip signature cocktails in style, with a view of the rooftops, plus the illuminated Hotel de Ville, part of Notre Dame — and the iconic Tour Eiffel.

The menu here is packed with original cocktails, bottles of white wine, rosé and beer; and if you’re peckish, you can also find a decent cheese platter and a plate of charcuterie to soften the (alcoholic) blow.

The atmosphere is both cozy and festive, and the decoration is hipster/boho meets homely; with  fluffy sofas, wooden tables, rustic stools and striped cushions, mixed with an unexpected sprinkling of assorted greenery and palm trees. The music is catchy, mixing DJ sets and live sessions, according to the desires of the crowd. A groovy option for good vibes on a Friday, and well worth the 30-minute+ wait outside for a first-timer.

Perfect for: Friday night drinks with a magnificent view of the City of Light that truly does it justice!

What to order: The entire signature cocktail selection here is delicious, but since we are in France, we recommend you go all out and order the “Géant Vert” cocktail with absinthe and cucumber for the real ‘fairy godmother’ experience in a magical setting.
