Raymonda Ballet – Opéra Bastille, Paris
Curtains may be closing on 2019, but the show must go on.
At The Ink Collective, we’ll be toasting in the New Year with a class act at the Opera Bastille in Paris, no less.
Next year — Raymonda — Marius Petipa’s quintessential narrative ballet, which premiered in 1898 at Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre to Alexander Glazunov’s scintillating score, will be performed at one of the world’s most fabulous venues, and we’ve got tickets — assuming the city strikes don’t steal our thunder again (it was originally slated for the 31st).
Wherever you are — and wherever we end up for the night — we wish you all a wonderful end of year and a fantastic 2020 ahead!
More on the Raymonda ballet below, in case you’re interested ;)
Raymonda — In a Few Words:
A genuine medieval fantasy today regarded as an encyclopaedia of classical dance forms, this performance work depicts the love story of the young Raymonda and the knight Jean de Brienne in the face of the covetous desires of the Saracen chief Abderam.
Long unknown outside Russia, the ballet was staged several times by Rudolf Nureyev after he defected to the West. The choreographer gave it his final touch in 1983 when he became Director of the Paris Opera Ballet. Associating it with Nicholas Georgiadis’s sumptuous sets and costumes, Nureyev recreated all the Eastern charm of a romantic fresco to a backdrop of the mythicised echoes of the crusades.
Perfect for: A glamorous, black-tie night out on the town. Guaranteed.
What to order: Champagne. Only the best for the ballet, and we’ll be ordering plenty of it tonight, to ring in the New Year. Santé! X
